    pluck + block example.com
    pluck + allow https://example.com/something

But that does not work in Plucky 1.14.10+. To accomplish the same thing in Plucky 1.14.10+, block the base url, and allow a more specific URL, like so:

    pluck + block https://example.com/
    pluck + allow https://example.com/something

  • Fix a BAD_FORMAT bug in installer.

v1.13.10 - 2022-08-08

  • Drop support for all legacy syntax from Pluckeye 0.98 and below (deny, sometimes, onetime, registration, blackout, whiteout).

  • Fix self-pipe bug that complicated focus.sh script.

pluck find stuff | pluck replace allow "when $time block" | pluck import -

  • Let rules be tagged.

pluck + allow kungfugame.com tag play
pluck + allow encyclopedia.org tag work

The purpose of these tags is mostly up to the end user. Some may want to use them for scripting. But some tag values have special meaning, such as try (see below).

  • Add try rules to make it easier to try new blocking strategies.

Try rules are useful for testing new block, blot, or flee rules without committing to them just yet because unlike ordinary rules, they can be removed without any delay. For example,

    pluck delay 1h
    pluck + try block um.com
pluck - try block um.com # block um.com removed immediately
pluck + try flee word pizza
pluck - try flee word pizza # flee word pizza removed immediately

Try rules are implemented using the new tag feature.

Note that the try term is required when removing the rule as well as when adding it. To convert try rules to regular rules, just add the same rules again, but without try, and remove the try rules.

TODO: describe a way to script this conversion.

The try rules render the following technique, used by savvy Plucky users who are experimenting with blocking rules, unnecessary:

pluck + now+5m flee word pasta

  • Add support for natural delay patterns.

  • Add threshold scores, blot, and flee scores (experimental).

When not specified, the score defaults to 1.0.

pluck + blot score 0.9 word sketchy
pluck + blot score 0.1 word girl

The score should generally be 1 divided by the number of times the term should appear on the page to warrant a blot or flee. So, for example, a score of 0.9 means the word “sketchy” can appear once on the page without being blocked, as long as it doesn’t appear in a really important place such as the url of the page. A score of 0.1 means the term can appear on the page 9 times without provoking a blot.

Users are not advised to make heavy use of these scores as their meaning may change in the future.

  • Change default delays for some terms such as require.

Users who want the old behavior (immediate require) can use:

    pluck + delay 0 "+ require"

  • unallow, unblock, unblot, unflee (experimental, not yet fully functional)

The “un” actions are useful for selectively ignoring less-specific rules.

    pluck clear
    pluck + block image/
    pluck + allow a.com
pluck + blot word pizza # does not affect a.com

    pluck clear
    pluck + block image/
    pluck + unblock image/ a.com # allow images on a.com
pluck + blot word pizza # affects a.com

  • allow+, block+, flee+, blot+, allow++, block++, flee++, blot++, allow-, block-, etc. (experimental)

High priority rules may be added by using one or more + characters after an action. Low priority rules can be added by using - after the action.

Use these sparingly because overuse of them will make Plucky’s engine slow.

    pluck + now+10m allow+ study.com
    pluck + now+10m block+ otherwise
    pluck + now+10m allow++ heavenly.org

When used in conjunction with delay patterns, can be used to achieve focus. E.g.,

Ahead of time, do this, so allow rules for khanacademy can be added immediately.

    pluck + delay 0 "+ allow https://www.khanacademy.org/"

    To focus on https://www.khanacademy.org/abc :

    pluck + now+1h allow+ https://www.khanacademy.org/abc # allow the focus url(s)
    pluck + now+1h block+ otherwise
    pluck + now+1h delay _ "+ allow https://www.khanacademy.org/" # maybe delay other urls

delay _ above means, “use the general delay”.

  • Add some other experimental and not yet documented features.

    pluck + delay 10
    pluck + allow good.com
    pluck + allow oops.com
pluck abort oops.com # remove oops.com from future
pluck abort oops # would also work

  • Synchronize pluck abort correctly.

  • Fix add-remove-add bug. Future additions should now be removable without waiting.

    pluck + allow ok.com + block image/

  • Harmonize pluck eval output with the pluckeye engine with respect to context urls.

    pluck + allow ok.com + block image/
pluck eval http://um.com/ image # no

v0.99.50 - 2020-05-28

  • Avoid multiple snafus in synchronization. The following commands should now be more reliable.

    pluck upload
    pluck sync

But note that imported configurations are still a bad idea (i.e. they don’t work right)!

v0.99.39 - 2020-04-02

  • Fix 2 bugs in upgrade code that lead to incorrect or missing configurations.

  • Add safesearch and safesearchstrict options (DO NOT USE EITHER UNTIL v0.99.42!). These only affect Chrome (and not Firefox’s) view of Google and YouTube at present. The safesearchstrict requests stricter safe searching when possible. Example usage:

    pluck + safesearchstrict
    pluck + nofirefox
    pluck + allow google.com
    pluck + allow youtube.com

If you enable safesearch or safesearchstrict before v0.99.42, you need to also run pluck repair to fix Chrome’s view of the Internet.

Do not use this version unless you like bugs!

  • Reject invalid hrs3 (reported by RNYC).

  • Allow importing of url or host lists.

    echo https://www.reddit.com/r/good >good-urls.txt
    pluck import-allow good-urls.txt

  • Add support for noop (DO NOT USE!).

noop can be used to avoid a rule at the same priority level. For example to block all content from ‘um.com’, except for the ‘ok’ subdomain, i.e., ‘ok.um.com’:

    pluck add "block image/"
    pluck add "block um.com"
    pluck add "noop ok.um.com"

noop can be thought of as “unblock” or “unallow”.

  • Handle legacy “level:2” syntax.

  • On Windows and macOS, attempt to handle bigger imports (v0.99.x + failed to handle imports with more than about 800k entries).

  • Deprecate levels.

    The old way:

    pluck set "level 2"
    pluck set "level 1"

    The new way:

    pluck add system
    pluck del system

Or, if you like arithmetic symbols:

    pluck + system
    pluck - system

The old syntax is accepted for awhile, as is the level 1 / level 2 interface in the browser. But underneath, it uses a boolean feature named “system”, which if on, indicates Pluckeye should operate at what was traditionally known as “level 2”.

  • On Windows, avoid random infinite loop

v0.99.10 - 2019-11-23

Major surgery, practically a rewrite.

  • Rules for ipv6 should now work correctly.

  • The language has been tweaked. Quotes are not needed for many cases.

    pluck delay
    pluck delay 100
    pluck add allow ok.com

  • The old multi-user support has been dropped, but one can now add users to rules. E.g.:

    pluck add allow user:susan
    pluck add block bad.com user:peter

  • The registration feature (accountability) has been dropped (a replacement is in the works)

  • Automatic expedite does not work at present. To trigger expedite checking:

    pluck mayprove

  • Settings are not synced to u.pluckeye.net (yet).

  • Delays may now vary not only based on time, but also based on the rule being added or removed. E.g., to specify a 10 minute delay for removal of block rules:

    pluck + "delay 10m - block"

  • And much more.
